KARACHI: President Asif Ali Zardari has emphasized the need to accelerate the implementation of joint projects between the Government of Sindh and Chinese companies, describing the Karachi–Hyderabad M-9 Motorway as an ideal starting point for developing Pakistan’s electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure.
The president made these remarks while chairing a meeting at the Chief Minister House with delegations from Anhui Nengtong New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. and Luoyang Modern Biology Group. The meeting, facilitated by the China-Pakistan-Africa Economic and Trade Cooperation Promotion Association, reviewed the progress of various memoranda of understanding (MoUs) and cooperation initiatives between Sindh and Chinese partners.
President Zardari directed the relevant authorities to expedite the implementation of agreed projects and ensure that all remaining procedural and technical requirements are completed without delay.
Highlighting Pakistan’s transition toward sustainable transportation, the president said Karachi and Hyderabad possess significant potential for EV infrastructure development, while the M-9 corridor offers an ideal route for establishing intercity EV charging facilities.
He expressed confidence that cooperation with Chinese companies would accelerate Pakistan’s shift toward green mobility while supporting the growth of the country’s new energy sector.
The meeting reviewed progress on several collaborative initiatives, including electric vehicle charging infrastructure, solar-storage-charging facilities, energy storage solutions, smart charging networks, veterinary biological vaccines, animal identification and traceability systems, agricultural technology, healthcare and fire safety equipment.
Officials also briefed the president on measures taken by the Government of Sindh to coordinate with Chinese companies and facilitate the timely execution of these projects.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to its longstanding partnership with China, President Zardari said the government continues to provide full support to Chinese businesses and investors.
He noted that Pakistan highly values its All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership with China and remains committed to expanding economic collaboration under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) 2.0. He added that his regular visits to China reflect Pakistan’s determination to strengthen bilateral ties and promote mutually beneficial economic cooperation.
During discussions with Anhui Nengtong New Energy Technology Co., Ltd., the president was informed about the company’s interest in manufacturing EV charging stations in Pakistan and developing related infrastructure across Sindh. The discussions also covered technology transfer, workforce training and the deployment of integrated solar-storage-charging systems.
The meeting also reviewed cooperation with Luoyang Modern Biology Group in the fields of veterinary biological vaccines and animal identification and traceability.
Officials briefed the president on the roadmap for collaboration, including the ongoing visit of the Chinese delegation, a planned visit by a delegation from the Sindh Institute of Animal Husbandry to China in August, and technical work related to the Sindh-08 strain of foot-and-mouth disease.
The president was informed that vaccine trials in both China and Pakistan are expected to conclude by November 2026, after which the project’s implementation costs and timelines will be finalized.
